WilmerHale counsel Marissa Wenzel has received the 2026 President’s Pro Bono Service Award from the New York State Bar Association, recognizing her extraordinary commitment to pro bono service and access to justice.
The award was presented on May 1, 2026, during the New York State Bar Association’s annual Law Day ceremony in Albany. Wenzel was selected as the award recipient for the Eighth Judicial District.
Wenzel’s pro bono practice spans a wide range of matters, including immigration, reproductive rights, racial justice and family law. She was nominated for the award by the Erie County Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers Project in connection with two successful immigration appeals before the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which concerned issues at the intersection of criminal and immigration law.
Reflecting on the honor, Wenzel shared that she sees pro bono service as a responsibility for those who work in a legal system that is intended to serve everyone. She described the award as a reminder of the trust clients place in their advocates and the privilege of serving in that role.
