The American Lawyer has recognized Partner Michelle Nicole Diamond as a finalist for Young Lawyer of the Year – Beyond Practice in the publication’s nationwide Industry Awards. This recognition honors a promising young lawyer who has made meaningful advancements in public or societal interest or otherwise worked to improve the profession or community around them. Diamond was recognized for her leadership on workplace culture and compliance issues and significant pro bono practice, which is focused on protecting access to reproductive rights.
Following the landmark ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Diamond has been at the forefront of successful challenges to restore abortion access in Montana and Ohio. She has made substantial contributions to this cause, which include advocating for reproductive rights nationwide, contesting laws that restrict women's access to constitutionally-protected abortion care, and combating gender-based discrimination that disproportionately affects women of color, low-income individuals, medically underserved populations, and vulnerable communities.
In February 2024, she led a team to a monumental victory for Planned Parenthood of Montana, challenging three anti-abortion laws and obtaining a summary judgment declaring them unconstitutional. Additionally, in October 2022, she obtained a preliminary injunction of Ohio’s six-week abortion ban on behalf of Planned Parenthood and the ACLU, restoring abortion access in the state.
Diamond is also a leader within the WilmerHale and broader legal community. She plays an active role in in mentoring women and associates as head of the New York Office’s Women’s Leadership Initiative, Co-chair of the hiring committee, and head of a diversity mentoring circle. She also fosters shelter dogs through Hearts and Bone, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment while they find their forever homes.
Ambassador Robert Kimmett was also recognized as a finalist for Lawyer of the Year in The American Lawyer Industry Awards.
Winners will be announced at a gala in New York on November 13, where the individuals and institutions will be honored.
