WilmerHale has been featured on Bloomberg Law’s inaugural list of “Pro Bono Innovators,” which recognizes a selection of law firms, companies and non-profit organizations that are successfully innovating in their approaches to pro bono legal service across the globe.

This list celebrates lawyers across the US and beyond working to uphold the rule of law for underserved communities. Bloomberg Law showcases attorneys who worked on matters which resulted in a broad, societal impact through a legal or policy change. WilmerHale’s profile highlights the firm’s work on two recent and significant matters.

In April 2022, a pro bono team of WilmerHale lawyers achieved a significant victory for United Farm Workers (UFW) and the UFW Foundation when Judge Dale A. Drozd of the Eastern District of California granted our clients’ motion for summary judgment and vacated a rule that threatened to reduce the wages of hundreds of thousands of farmworkers.

In Bloomberg’s profile, our attorneys note, “The decision vacating the Trump administration’s wage rule had nationwide effect. The ruling made sure that over 300,000 farm workers spread out among almost every state got to keep over $546 million in wages.”

Additionally, the firm’s profile features a significant win achieved by WilmerHale attorneys in Michigan, in which legislation was signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in November 2021 to put an end to the taxation of essential menstrual products. It was also a victory for WilmerHale client Period Equity, which has campaigned since 2016 to put an end to the tampon tax as a matter of fundamental fairness.
