The Equal Justice Coalition (EJC) named WilmerHale the recipient of both the Exceptional Support Award and the Team Advocacy Award in recognition of the firm’s participation in the 2021 Talk to the Hill for Civil Legal Aid.

Founded in 1999, the EJC advocates on behalf of low-income Massachusetts residents who are unable to access civil legal aid due to inadequate funding. In January of 2021, the coalition organized the 22nd annual Talk to the Hill for Civil Legal Aid—a virtual rebranding of the traditional Walk to the Hill. The virtual event drew more than 1,000 members of the Boston legal community to lobby for increased funding for civil legal aid organizations through the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation line item. Due to their efforts, The Commonwealth included the requested increase of $6 million for civil legal aid in 2022.

Forty-seven members of WilmerHale participated in Talk to the Hill, earning the firm the Exceptional Support Award. The firm also received the Team Advocacy Award, given to the law firm that visits the most legislative offices during the event.
