Global Investigations Review (GIR) has named Erin Sloane on its “Women in Investigations 2021” list, which “highlights remarkable women in the profession,” who are “achieving great things in a competitive and notoriously tough area of law.” This year’s special list profiles 100 exceptional women in the white-collar world, from future leaders to some of the established stars.
Each nominee was asked to share reflections of their investigations work. Sloane noted how the world of corporate investigations, both internal and government-facing, has transformed since she first started practicing in 2004. Today, the world of investigations continues to evolve. “The rise of enforcement outside the United States, including foreign governments taking the lead on large coordinated resolutions instead of US regulators, is something we will be talking about years to come,” says Sloane.
Sloane’s GIR profile highlights her 2019 appointment as an independent Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) compliance monitor by the US Department of Justice and US Securities and Exchange Commission for a German healthcare company, making her only the fourth woman named as a FCPA monitor in the past decade.
Sloane also shared some of the things she loves about her job: mentoring young lawyers, getting to know the people working on her teams, traveling to interesting parts of the world and learning about diverse industries and corporate cultures. Sloane also highlighted how important diversity is when staffing her matters.
“Growing and stretching experiences like government presentations, board meetings and other high-stakes client interactions are critical to professional growth,” says Sloane, “and those opportunities should not automatically go to the loudest voices asking for them.”
