WilmerHale is pleased to announce that former Securities and Exchange Commissioner Daniel M. Gallagher is returning to the firm as a partner and a leader in its Securities Department. He will join as the deputy chair of the firm’s Securities Department, working with William R. McLucas, department chair, to manage this market-leading practice and guide its future direction.
Mr. Gallagher, 46, is currently the chief legal officer of Mylan N.V., one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. He plans to leave Mylan in April and be based in WilmerHale’s Washington and New York offices after Labor Day. His practice will focus on advising corporate boards and management on the full range of legal and strategic issues they face, and representing issuers, financial services firms, and accounting firms in investigations and regulatory matters. Mr. Gallagher also brings deep experience in fintech issues, focusing on the regulatory and policy issues arising from new technologies.
As an SEC commissioner from 2011 to 2015, Mr. Gallagher championed corporate governance reform, advocated for a comprehensive holistic review of equity market structural issues, and encouraged greatly improving the SEC’s fixed income market expertise. Mr. Gallagher previously served as deputy director and co-acting director of the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets.
After his service as an SEC commissioner, Mr. Gallagher was president of Patomak Global Partners, a financial services consulting firm. He joined Mylan in 2017 in his current role. Earlier in his career, he served as the general counsel and senior vice president of Firserv Securities, Inc., where he was responsible for managing all legal and regulatory matters. Mr. Gallagher was a WilmerHale partner from 2010 until he joined the SEC in late 2011.
“We’re thrilled to have Dan back at the firm,” said Robert Novick, WilmerHale co-managing partner. “Dan is a superb lawyer who has had a distinguished career in the public and corporate sectors, and returns to the firm with a broad range of skills and experience. Dan will join an extraordinary team that offers our clients solutions to their most challenging problems.”
“Dan is an exceptional lawyer and great colleague,” Mr. McLucas said. “He’s the perfect addition to our leadership team and we are excited that he will be our partner again.”
Of his rejoining the firm, Mr. Gallagher said: “I’m delighted to return to WilmerHale to work with such talented colleagues, and to help clients successfully navigate their toughest challenges. WilmerHale’s securities group has long been the gold standard in the legal industry and I’m looking forward to contributing to this preeminent practice.”
