Louis Tompros Named Litigator of the Week by The American Lawyer for $130M Trademark Victory for BRP

Client News

On January 25, 2019, The American Lawyer recognized Louis Tompros as Litigator of the Week for successfully persuading a federal jury in Detroit to reject a $130 million trademark infringement claim against Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP). The plaintiff, Jaguar Land Rover, sought to obtain all profits from BRP’s Can-Am Defender, a side-by-side off-road vehicle that Land Rover claimed could be confused with its product because of the “Defender” name. Land Rover won a similar case in the EU two years ago, making this win particularly significant for Mr. Tompros and the firm.
