Stephen Preston Appointed to President's Intelligence Advisory Board

Firm News

On April 8, the White House announced the appointment of Partner Stephen Preston to the President's Intelligence Advisory Board (PIAB).

Composed of “distinguished citizens selected from the national security, political, academic, and private sectors,” the PIAB provides the President with “an independent source of advice on the effectiveness with which the Intelligence Community is meeting the nation's intelligence needs, and the vigor and insight with which the community plans for the future,” according to the White House. “For more than five decades the PIAB has acted as a nonpartisan body, offering the President objective, expert advice on the conduct of U.S. intelligence.”

Preston chairs WilmerHale's Defense, National Security and Government Contracts Practice. He rejoined the firm in 2015, after serving as Department of Defense General Counsel from 2013 to 2015 and as CIA General Counsel from 2009 to 2013. In both positions, he played a leading role in ensuring that US military operations and intelligence activities fully complied with domestic and international law. Preston previously held positions in the Department of Justice and the Department of the Navy.
