2011 is shaping up as a key year for Clean Energy. The Fukushima nuclear disaster and its aftermath have changed the perception of nuclear for a new generation. Germany will shut down all nuclear reactors by 2022 and Japan and other countries may follow. This may open up opportunities for continued clean energy growth momentum.
Germany has set ambitious clean energy goals: 35% clean electricity by 2020 and 80% by 2050. California has mandated 33% RPS by 2020. Japan and China have approved feed-in-tariffs for wind and solar.
On the other hand, several solar companies have recently gone bankrupt; American programs like the Investment Cash Grant and the Production Tax Credit expire at the end of 2011 and 2012 respectively; while the financial crisis in Europe threatens its clean energy growth momentum.
Topics to be discussed:
- What are the challenges and opportunities in clean energy this year and in the near future?
- Which clean energy technologies (solar, wind, hydro, geo) will benefit?
- What are Silicon Valley and global leaders doing to prepare for and take advantage of these market opportunities?
- What role does Energy Efficiency play?
