Counsel Michael Arada Greenop will speak at Egypt Arbitration Days 2025 on a panel titled, “From Bilateral to Collective: Rethinking Investment Protection in the Middle East.” The session will take place at the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) Conference Center on 14 October from 2–4 p.m.
The panel will explore the evolution of investment protection frameworks across the Middle East and North Africa, tracing the development of bilateral investment treaties and examining their limitations. It will also consider:
- Recent moves toward collective and regional arrangements, such as the OIC Investment Agreement and the Arab Investment Agreement, assessing their practical effectiveness in balancing state sovereignty and investor protection;
- Investor challenges in enforcement and cross-border dispute strategies, practical enforcement issues in the region, and whether collective mechanisms can strengthen investor confidence; and
- Possible reforms and steps that states, investors, and institutions may prioritise over the coming decade.
The event is hosted by Galadari Advocates & Legal Consultants and will be moderated by Mohamed El Mahdy. Other speakers on the panel include Muhammad Ussama (Senior Partner at Shalakany), Heba Ahmed Raslan (Partner at Sharkawy & Sarhan) and Mohammed Ahmed Khalil (Judge at Egyptian State Council).
