Security for costs is a widely used procedural tool in international arbitration. A panel at the 9th ICC Africa Conference on International Arbitration, titled “Security for Costs: Unique Circumstances That a Party Can Be Granted Security for Costs,” will examine how tribunals have approached such applications in special situations. WilmerHale Counsel Michael Arada Greenop will speak on the panel, which will explore a range of scenarios – including those in which a claimant may seek security – and the factors tribunals take into consideration in such contexts. The discussion will reflect ongoing thought leadership in the use of procedural tools in arbitration, combining strategic insight with practical analysis of how these applications are handled in practice.
The ICC Africa Conference is one of the leading arbitration events on the continent, bringing together practitioners, institutions, and in-house counsel from across Africa and beyond. This year’s edition will take place in Nairobi from 28 to 30 May 2025, and will focus on “International Arbitration in Africa: Africa’s role in shaping the next era of Alternative Dispute Resolution.”
