Counsel Michael Arada Greenop will speak on a panel titled “Green Energy, Red Flags: Investment Disputes in African Energy & Mining Projects” at the 9th CIArb Kenya International Arbitration Conference during Nairobi Arbitration Week 2025 (17-21 March 2025). The panel will examine the investment arbitration risks in Africa’s energy and mining sectors, particularly in the context of the energy transition and sustainability commitments.
The panel will feature:
- Michael Arada Greenop, Counsel, WilmerHale
- Ken Melly, Partner, Head of Dispute Resolution, G&A Advocates (Kenya)
- Juvenalis Ngowi, Partner, Dentons (Tanzania)
- Brenda Wagura (Moderator), Lawyer & Business Advisor, Kenya Lead Counsel, CLG
This event builds on Michael’s previous engagement with Kenya’s energy sector, including a capacity-building session in Nairobi last year, where he led the discussions on investment arbitration risks in the energy transition. The session explored the impact of regulatory changes, shifts in incentives, and policy adjustments on renewable energy investments, drawing insights from disputes in other jurisdictions.
Michael is also a member of the Africa Arbitration Academy Taskforce on Climate Change and Carbon Credits Disputes and has been involved in the Africa Arbitration Academy’s Flagship Training Programme, which further supports efforts to address legal challenges in this evolving sector.
