The Department of Justice and state Attorneys General are poised to review two deals that may bring seismic change to the health insurance industry: Aetna’s $37 billion acquisition of Humana and Anthem’s $54 billion acquisition of Cigna. This panel, hosted by the Health Care and Pharmaceuticals Committee, Insurance and Financial Services, and Mergers and Acquisitions Committees of the ABA Section of Antitrust Law Section, will discuss what the review process may look like; the potential competitive impact of these deals on health care markets and the health insurance industry; and the unique issues these deals will present locally and nationally.
