David Stoopler is a senior associate who focuses his practice on investigations and criminal litigation and appellate and supreme court litigation. Mr. Stoopler also maintains an active pro bono practice.

Prior to joining WilmerHale, Mr. Stoopler was a law clerk for the Honorable Barrington D. Parker, Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Honorable Jesse M. Furman of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

While in law school, Mr. Stoopler served as the Director of Federal Affairs at the NYC Housing Development Corporation. During law school, Mr. Stoopler also spent time as a legal intern in the Office of Legal Policy at the US Department of Justice in Washington DC and for the Honorable Richard J. Sullivan of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Prior to law school, Mr. Stoopler worked for Senator Charles E. Schumer. Mr. Stoopler served as the Staff Director for the Senate Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development and as the Senator's principal advisor for the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. In these roles, Mr. Stoopler advised Senator Schumer throughout the 2007-2009 housing and financial crisis as well as on the negotiation of several major legislative initiatives.

Brooklyn Defender Services Recognizes WilmerHale’s Pro Bono Contributions

The firm has provided pro bono support to the Family Defense Practice in parents' rights cases since 2011, and several current and former WilmerHale lawyers have served on the organization's advisory board.

Professional Activities

Mr. Stoopler currently serves as a Member of the Advisory Board of the New York Housing Conference, a broad-based coalition that advocates for decent affordable housing for all New Yorkers.

Mr. Stoopler is a member of the American Bar Association.
