Elliot Shackelford focuses his practice on representing clients in government and internal corporate investigations, with a particular emphasis on matters involving the FCPA, anti-corruption compliance, and risk assessment. He has wide-ranging experience managing and supporting teams representing major multinational corporations and financial institutions in cross-border internal investigations, as well as civil and criminal investigations and other enforcement matters before the DOJ, SEC and international regulators. His recent matters also include representation of companies undergoing monitorships as well as serving as a member of a DOJ-appointed independent compliance monitorship team.

Mr. Shackelford also works with clients across industries and geographies to analyze and improve their compliance programs and to identify enhancements needed to mitigate risk, including initiatives to strengthen anti-corruption policies and procedures, ensure effective internal controls and develop anti-corruption compliance training.

Mr. Shackelford’s pro bono practice focuses on counseling low-income residents in the District of Columbia, primarily regarding family court submissions and preparation of life planning documents. He also assists in veterans’ appeals and in pro bono legal clinics addressing immigration claims. 

Prior to joining WilmerHale, Mr. Shackelford served as a judicial extern for the Honorable John T. Noonan of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and as a legal intern at the US Securities and Exchange Commission. An accomplished pianist, Mr. Shackelford presented more than 2,500 concerts before developing his legal career, including performances at the White House in Washington DC.
