Tzu-Hsiang (Sean) Lan

Lan, Sean

Sean Lan is an associate whose practice focuses on intellectual property matters. He handles matters in a wide range of technology areas, with a strong emphasis on patents. Mr. Lan was a 2016 summer associate at WilmerHale.

Prior to joining WilmerHale, Mr. Lan was an intern with the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Washington DC where he conducted legal research and crafted bench memoranda. Additionally, Mr. Lan served as an intern with the United States Court of Federal Claims in Washington DC. There, he drafted and edited opinions for cases related to the Contract Disputes Act.

Previously, Mr. Lan also served as a patent examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, Virginia. During his time there he examined patent applications and inventions related to operational research, telecommunications, computer software and networking, search engines, graphical user interface, e-commerce, medical workflow/interface and virtual platforms. Mr. Lan earned a bronze award recognition for achieving five consecutive years of outstanding production and quality performance.

Mr. Lan spent part of his early career as a lab assistant for a dermatology research lab for the San Diego VA Hospital and as a research assistant dealing with bioengineering and artificial blood while at the University of California, San Diego.

Mr. Lan was awarded the Chris Bartok Memorial Award in Patent Law from The George Washington University Law School. The award is given to a member of the graduating class who exhibited excellence in the study of patent law.
