Jonathan Cox focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation. He counsels prominent technology companies involved in global patent disputes and assists clients with patent litigation in federal district courts and in Section 337 investigations before the United States International Trade Commission.

Mr. Cox's recent highlights include:

  • Favorable settlement of Section 337 investigation, district court litigation and global patent disputes involving patents declared essential to telecommunications standards
  • Favorable settlement of Section 337 investigations, district court litigation and global patent disputes involving a variety of technologies relevant to mobile communications devices, including transceivers, antennas, video codecs and telecommunications standards
  • Favorable settlement of Section 337 investigation and district court litigation involving laser-driven light sources used for semiconductor device fabrication
  • Favorable settlement of district court litigation involving smart utility meters
  • Summary affirmance by the Federal Circuit of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board's invalidation of patents for data processing technology during inter partes review proceedings

Mr. Cox has also assisted clients with appellate disputes, including before the United States Courts of Appeals for the First, Second and Federal Circuits, as well as the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. He recently helped a client secure a reversal by the Second Circuit of a summary judgment order in a trademark dispute. He also recently presented oral argument to a panel of the First Circuit on behalf of a criminal defendant, whom he represented under the Criminal Justice Act. 

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Cox clerked for the Honorable Mark L. Wolf of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. During law school, he was an executive editor of the Harvard Law Review and served as a law clerk for Bay Area Legal Aid in San Jose, California.
