John F. Kane

John Kane’s practice focuses on complex intellectual property matters, with an emphasis on patent prosecution. He has advised clients regarding patentability for protecting intellectual property, and has handled the prosecution of patent applications in various technical areas, with a focus on inventions relating to pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, polymers, films, paper and adhesives. Mr. Kane has filed and prosecuted US and foreign patent applications, negotiated license agreements, and has conducted due diligence with respect to intellectual property involved in corporate transactions.

Prior to joining WilmerHale, Mr. Kane was a counsel at a firm in Dayton, Ohio. While there, he counseled clients on various aspects of intellectual property law and on issues arising under the Hatch-Waxman Act. He also assisted with litigation involving misappropriation of trade secrets associated with production processes for manufacturing pharmaceutical dosage forms.

Previously, Mr. Kane was a technical consultant and senior project engineer with the Standard Register Co. While there, he developed qualitative and quantitative test procedures for specialty paper and coatings, and developed laboratory specifications and procedures.

Professional Activities

Mr. Kane is a member of the Dayton Intellectual Property Law Association and the Dayton Bar Association. In 2006, he was an adjunct professor of law at the University of Dayton School of Law.
