Joanna Howard

Joanna Howard represents a variety of clients on complex securities enforcement and regulatory matters, with a particular focus on transatlantic investigations involving UK and US authorities.

Ms. Howard is dual-qualified, admitted to the bar in New York and admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Howard worked for four years as a lawyer in the Enforcement Division of the UK Financial Conduct Authority, where she conducted cross-border investigations of financial institutions, including an investigation focused on LIBOR and EURIBOR, and the “London Whale” trading investigation. Throughout her time at the FCA, Ms. Howard worked closely with prosecutors and regulators conducting parallel investigations in the United States, including at the Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission, and Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Before joining the FCA, Ms. Howard trained and worked as a solicitor at a leading litigation firm in London, where she represented corporate entities and individuals in internal investigations relating to regulatory breaches, criminal tax issues and corruption offences, and also represented clients in various tax litigation and judicial review matters.

Ms. Howard studied English law at BPP Law School in London and US law at the University of Michigan Law School. During law school in Michigan, Ms. Howard worked as a senior research assistant at the Center on Finance, Law and Policy and published “Reforming SEC ALJ Proceedings” in the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform.
