Jeff Habenicht represents and counsels clients regarding a broad range of complex regulatory matters in connection with government investigations, congressional inquiries and product development involving intersecting legal, public policy and media dimensions that frequently require a coordinated strategic response. He has extensive experience working with social media platforms, including representing executives and technology companies in high-profile congressional investigations and hearings. He has also represented technology companies in connection with investigations and litigation with federal regulators and state attorneys general concerning alleged privacy and consumer protection violations related to social media products. 

Mr. Habenicht also counsels technology companies in connection with product development, advising clients regarding the legal risks involved in product launches as well as potential risk-mitigation strategies. This product counseling includes advising clients on the launch of new generative artificial intelligence products.

Mr. Habenicht is fluent in Spanish and has been involved in numerous matters in Latin America, including Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigations and advising. He also uses his Spanish fluency to maintain a robust pro bono immigration practice, including representing clients before the US Supreme Court.

Past Experience

Mr. Habenicht rejoined the firm following a clerkship with the Honorable Marilyn C. Huff of the US District Court for the Southern District of California. During his time at Harvard Law School, Mr. Habenicht was a trial division legal intern at the Office of the Attorney General of Massachusetts. He was also a clinical intern at the Appeals Unit of the US Attorneys’ Office in Boston. In law school, Mr. Habenicht served as the director of the Ames Moot Court program and was a member of the Board of Student Advisers.

Before law school, Mr. Habenicht completed an MA in psychology at Boston University. While completing his graduate studies, he was a teaching fellow in the psychology department at Boston University, leading undergraduate discussion sessions in statistics and social psychology. Prior to law school, Mr. Habenicht also served as a legislative intern in the office of US Senator Carl Levin, researching domestic energy and environmental policy for legislative staff.
