Elizabeth C. Mooney

Elizabeth Mooney has a wide-ranging litigation practice with a focus on complex commercial disputes. She is a member of WilmerHale’s Business Trial Group and routinely represents clients in federal and state courts around the country. Ms. Mooney has experience handling civil litigation for clients from a broad range of industries, including the automobile industry, academia and financial services, among others.

Ms. Mooney’s practice encompasses all stages of litigation, from discovery to summary judgment and trial. She has extensive experience preparing witnesses for depositions, government interviews and trial, and she regularly oversees complex electronic discovery. Ms. Mooney also routinely assists WilmerHale’s Office of the General Counsel with matters of importance to the firm.

Ms. Mooney shares WilmerHale’s commitment to pro bono work and has served as trial counsel for survivors of domestic violence, successfully procuring permanent restraining orders, child custody and divorce decrees for her clients. 

Professional Activities

Ms. Mooney is a member of the American Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association and the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts. She is an active member of WilmerHale’s Women’s Leadership Initiative. 

Experience

  • Represented the President and Fellows of Harvard College in a challenge to Harvard’s consideration of race in its undergraduate admissions program. 
  • Represented a high-profile automobile manufacturer in a challenge brought by automobile dealers to certain of its policies.
  • Obtained a successful settlement for a prominent technology company that asserted its intellectual property rights against a competitor company.
  • Represented several medical device companies in connection with government investigations.

Recognition

Ms. Mooney was selected for the Boston Bar Association’s Public Interest Leadership Program (2014–2015).
