Christian Schwedler advises national and international companies and institutions on various EU and other regulatory matters, including on German and European antitrust and competition law as well as on data protection/privacy and public commercial law, with a focus on litigation and contested matters. He also advises corporate and institutional clients on European law and European procedural law.

Before joining WilmerHale, Mr. Schwedler worked from 2006 through 2012 for another international law firm as scientific assistant. In this function, he was a member of the Antitrust and Competition Group and the Energy and Regulatory Group.

Professional Activities

Mr. Schwedler is a member of the Association for the Study of Antitrust Law (Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht) and the Frankfurt Forum of Antitrust Lawyers (Frankfurter Kartellrechtsforum).

He regularly publishes scientific articles on a variety of current legal topics.

  • Advised an international social network provider in various data protection law litigations before the German administrative and civil courts, as well as in reference procedures before the European Court of Justice
  • Advised various companies of the German food industry in follow-on damage litigation law suits concerning different cartels before different German district courts
  • Advised an international bank in antitrust investigations of the European Commission regarding objections related to the trading of credit default swaps
  • Advised a major German automotive supplier in parallel antitrust investigations of the European Commission and the US Department of Justice
  • Advised a US manufacturer of medical products in various competition litigations before the Cologne and Düsseldorf District Courts
  • Advised local and state government institutions in respect of various complex state aid issues
