Alexandra Amrhein’s practice focuses on intellectual property litigation. She has been a member of multiple WilmerHale trial teams handling high stakes patent infringement disputes in federal district courts and before the International Trade Commission. Ms. Amrhein’s cases have involved a variety of technologies, including microprocessors, remote access software, wireless phones, automotive systems and pharmaceutical therapies. Her experience includes drafting motions and briefs, taking and defending depositions, handling pretrial discovery matters and all aspects of trial preparation. She has extensive experience working with both fact and expert witnesses to prepare them for deposition and trial testimony. Ms. Amrhein has managed large-scale, complex cases, including most recently serving as the “Chief of Staff” for a 40-plus person team defending a global technology company against patent infringement allegations in the International Trade Commission.

Ms. Amrhein has also been actively involved in WilmerHale’s culture of professional development. She has created and conducted multiple professional trainings for attorneys at the firm—including programs on effective closing arguments, matter management and deposition skills—as well as trainings on substantive topics in intellectual property litigation.

Ms. Amrhein served as the assistant instructor at the inaugural Harvard Law School Patent Trial Advocacy class in the spring semester of 2017.

In 2015, Alexandra served for six months as an Assistant District Attorney for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. During her time as a prosecutor, she tried multiple cases to verdict and argued numerous motions.

During law school, Ms. Amrhein completed a summer internship at the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office, where she researched and wrote the Commonwealth's response to a post-trial motion in a high-profile homicide case. In addition, she appeared and argued on behalf of the Commonwealth at arraignments, bail hearings and dispositions on pleas.

Ms. Amrhein is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and before the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
