Randall Lee Named to the Daily Journal's Top 100

Firm News

The Daily Journal has honored Randall Lee as one of the top 100 Lawyers in California in 2017. Lee was named to the annual list for his accomplishments during the last 12 months, including a trial win against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and a declination in a Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) investigation.

Against the SEC at trial in June 2016, Lee represented two former executives from Thornburg Mortgage, which had been the country's second-largest independent mortgage company. The executives, former CEO Larry Goldstone and former CFO Clarence Simmons III, faced 10 charges, including a claim they schemed to defraud investors by misrepresenting the company's income in the lead-up to the financial crisis. The jury, though, cleared Goldstone and Simmons on half of the 10 claims they faced, and it deadlocked 11-1 in their favor on the remaining five.

Lee later convinced the SEC not to retry the remaining five counts. The victory over the SEC was the “most challenging and most rewarding matter I've ever had,” Lee told the Daily Journal. “Our clients were, after nine years, fully vindicated.”

In the summer of 2016, Lee also successfully represented Cisco Systems in an FCPA investigation that spanned the globe, focusing on Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States as well as Bangladesh, Brazil, Hungary, India, Saudi Arabia and Thailand. At the investigation's conclusion, both the SEC and the Department of Justice issued declinations to Cisco.
