Jamie Gorelick Named to Defense Policy Board

October 7, 2011

WilmerHale Partner Jamie Gorelick has been appointed to the Defense Policy Board. Gorelick joins the board as part of a distinguished group that includes former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and retired General James Cartwright, a former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The Defense Policy Board is a federal advisory committee that provides advice and counsel to the leadership of the Department on matters concerning defense policy. Current members include former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, former Secretary of Defense William Perry, and former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel.

Gorelick has served at the Department twice, the last as General Counsel. She has also served on numerous government boards and commissions. She was a member of the bipartisan National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (the "9/11 Commission"). She also served as a member of the CIA's National Security Advisory Panel, as a member of former President Bush's Review of Intelligence Committee, and as co-chair of former President Clinton's Advisory Committee to the Presidential Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection. Gorelick was previously a member of the Commission on Science and Security at the Department of Energy, and currently serves on the Continuity of Government Commission.

A formal announcement was made by Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta on October 4, 2011.
