Three WilmerHale Lawyers To Receive The Legal Aid Society’s 2006 Pro Bono Award

WilmerHale Partner Edward Tobin and Associates Ilona Cohen and Sarah Hurwitz will be honored by The Legal Aid Society of New York as recipients of the group’s 2006 Pro Bono Award. The Legal Aid Society’s 2006 Pro Bono Awards and Law Firm Recognition ceremony will be held on Monday, November 6, 2006 in recognition of the outstanding contributions of individual lawyers and law firms to the cause of equal justice.

Mr. Tobin, Ms. Cohen and Ms. Hurwitz will be recognized for their representation of Amadou Ly, an eighteen-year old immigrant from Senegal who overstayed his visa when he was abandoned by his mother in the United States at age fourteen. WilmerHale worked in partnership with the Legal Aid Society and Latham & Watkins to successfully encourage immigration authorities to drop deportation proceedings against Mr. Ly and allow him to stay in the United States and attend college.
