Following a jury trial in the District Court for the Southern District of New York, WilmerHale obtained a verdict and $75.7 million in resulting damages for longtime client Eastman Kodak Company in a patent licensing dispute against Ricoh Company, Ltd.

Kodak filed the case in April 2012, alleging that Ricoh breached the terms of the parties' patent license agreement by failing to pay royalties on certain digital camera sales. On August 9, 2013, the Court granted Kodak's motion for partial summary judgment and found that Ricoh had breached the license. The only remaining issues in the case were the specific digital cameras Ricoh had to pay royalties on and the amount of damages owed to Kodak. After pretrial motions were decided, Ricoh agreed to pay Kodak $52.9 million to resolve all but one damages issue. On October 23, a jury resolved that final issue in Kodak's favor, resulting in $75.7 million in total damages owed to Kodak.

This is the third victory WilmerHale has obtained for Kodak over the past 18 months. In July 2012, WilmerHale obtained $33.7 million judgment for Kodak in a patent licensing dispute against Asia Optical Co., Inc. The Second Circuit has affirmed that Judgment. Then, in March 2013, WilmerHale obtained a summary judgment ruling for Kodak that Altek Corporation breached its license with Kodak.
