Law360 Names WilmerHale “Firm of the Year” for Competition and Securities Defense

Firm News
WilmerHale was selected as one of six “Competition Firms of the Year” and one of five “Securities Defense Firms of the Year” for 2009 by the editors of Law360—one of the nation’s leading publishers of legal news and information.

WilmerHale earned a place on Law360’s list of top competition firms based on the firm’s many victories in 2009, including work on behalf of Rambus Inc., Cephalon Inc., Lufthansa AG and Odfjell ASA. Law360 noted WilmerHale’s “top-notch practitioners of antitrust law in all disciplines,” and that, “WilmerHale attorneys have carved out an expertise at the crossroads of antitrust and intellectual property law, and that specialty served the firm well in 2009.”

Thomas Mueller, co-chair of the firm’s Antitrust and Competition Practice Group added, “The group’s accomplishments in 2009 are part of a tradition of delivering exemplary work and trying high-stakes cases.”

WilmerHale was also selected as one of the top securities defense firms of 2009 for its work on behalf of client Medtronic Inc. Law360 highlighted a couple of the firm’s back-to-back successes in 2009: “In March, the firm persuaded a judge to dismiss a derivative suit against Medtronic, and in May it got a separate derivative suit tossed and an ERISA suit dismissed.”

"The Securities Department is very pleased to be recognized for our efforts over the past year, a challenging one for our clients and our lawyers," said Harry Weiss, chair of the firm's Securities Litigation and Enforcement Practice Group.

Finally, WilmerHale received an Honorable Mention from Law360 in its “IP Firms of the Year” list for its nearly $400 million victory on behalf of client TiVo Inc. in a patent infringement suit against Dish Network Corp.
