On April 17, 2009, the White House announced the nomination of WilmerHale partner William J. Wilkins to become Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service and an Assistant General Counsel in the Treasury Department.
Wilkins is a member of WilmerHale’s Tax Practice Group, where he advises clients on tax and business matters, including tax compliance, exempt organization issues, corporate and partnership transactions, investment structures and federal tax legislation and regulation.
“Bill has been a leading member of our Tax Practice and the Tax Bar in general, and I am confident that his judgment and broad tax experience will be an asset to the IRS,” said Bill Caporizzo, chair of WilmerHale’s Tax Practice Group. “We wish Bill the best of luck in his new position and the challenges that come with it.”
Prior to joining WilmerHale in 1988, Wilkins served in various positions on the United States Senate Committee on Finance, including Staff Director and Chief Counsel of the Committee staff.
Wilkins received his BA magna cum laude from Yale University and his JD cum laude from Harvard Law School.
