Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP and the Investment Treaty Forum at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) are delighted to invite you to a seminar on the subject of "The ne ultra petita principle and international investment arbitration."

Professor Attila Tanzi, Chair of International Law at the University of Bologna, will address the ne ultra petita principle within the framework of an emerging common law of international adjudication and arbitration. In particular, he will consider it in relation to the counter-balancing principle of iura novit curia.

The principle's application in investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS) will be analysed with a special focus on ICSID arbitration, having special regard to its relevance for the purposes of annulment proceedings under Article 52 of the Washington Convention.

Sir Franklin Berman KCMG QC of Essex Court Chambers and Maurice Mendelson QC of Blackstone Chambers will comment on Professor Tanzi's analysis.

Professor Maxi Scherer of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr and Queen Mary University of London will chair the discussion.

The seminar will be followed by drinks and canapés.

Please contact Jesse Hubbard to request an invitation.
