Small States and the Law: Challenges and Opportunities

Small States and the Law: Challenges and Opportunities

Speaking Engagement

In a rapidly changing legal world, small states face particular issues to ensure their legal systems can meet international requirements. But in the current uncertain times, small states may also have unique opportunities to lead the way in legal developments and help to mould international law in a way that can benefit us all. Although small states differ hugely in geography, history, wealth, and more, their size means they face similar issues. To explore some of the legal topics of importance to small states, both domestically and internationally, the international lawyers of Doughty Street Chambers, the Island Rights Initiative and the Centre for Small States based at Queen Mary University of London, invite you to a seminar bringing together a panel of expert speakers, government representatives, policy makers, academics, and lawyers with an interest in small jurisdictions. The event will also launch a new book, Small States in a Legal World (Springer, 2017), which is a collection of essays investigating many of the key issues in some detail. WilmerHale Partner Steven Finizio will discuss small states and international dispute resolution during this seminar.
