Partner Naboth van den Broek spoke about the trade and investment dispute settlement mechanisms available under the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement, the political hurdles the agreement still faces in the US and elsewhere, and the overall public debate about investor-state and trade-related dispute settlement mechanisms. The presentation was part of a full-day conference organized jointly by the Federal Circuit Bar Association and the US Chamber of Commerce in their Global Series entitled Global Series 2016: Innovation & Trade. Other speakers included USTR General Counsel Timothy Reif, Angela Ellard, Everett Eissenstat, Jason Kearns, and Jayme White (chief trade counsels for the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committees), Gary Hufbauer (Peterson Institute), Jennifer Hillman (former WTO Appellate Body member), and numerous others.
