We counsel clients in the technology sector on cutting-edge and novel copyright protection matters centered on the dissemination and transmission of copyrighted works and content. We also support clients in the entertainment industry who rely on us for guidance on critical issues surrounding copyright protection for movies, television, music and other forms of art.

Our experience includes:

  • representing an American toy and board game company against allegations of copyright infringement;
  • representing a technology company in an international copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation dispute in the United States and in parallel declaratory proceedings in the UK;
  • representing several major television networks in a copyright case; and
  • defending a technology company in a copyright infringement claim related to fair use.

We protect local and global brands from infringement and dilution, guarding our clients' assets from competitors who aim to weaken their names. Our lawyers assist clients in the strategic selection, registration, management and enforcement of trademark, trade dress and domain name rights—often their most valuable assets. We take into consideration not only potential infringement of third-party rights, but also whether a potential name or trademark can be registered, and can provide the client with the desired exclusivity and global market impact. In 2016–2017, we filed approximately 2,600 trademark applications, and almost 2,500 trademark registrations were issued. We also helped clients prevent third-party misappropriation of trademarks and names by opposing registrations and seeking cancellations of existing registrations in the USPTO, under the Madrid Protocol and before various national and regional patent and trademark offices.

Our experience includes:

  • representing a global consumer electronics company in asserting claims and winning trade dress and trademark claims;
  • defending an audio equipment company against trademark infringement action;
  • representing a global sportswear and athletic goods company in a trademark and trade dress matter;
  • handling various trademark and trade dress matters for a global car manufacturer;
  • managing a global trademark portfolio for Europe's number-one company in color cosmetics, representing the company in trademark litigation and strategic counseling on trademark matters, including licensing, and representing the client before the European Court in a trademark cancellation action;
  • managing a global trademark portfolio for several affiliates of a global publishing company, representing the client in trademark matters, providing strategic counseling on copyright matters, and representing the client in IP litigation; and
  • managing a global trademark portfolio for a global banking and financial services company and representing the client before the European Court of Justice in two trademark application proceedings.
