Firm News

For the fourth consecutive year, WilmerHale has been selected by Yale Law Women for inclusion on the prestigious list of the Top Ten Family Friendly Firms. Yale Law Women surveys top law firms each year about their family-friendly and work-life policies and practices to showcase those firms that are committed to the retention and advancement of women in the legal industry.

WilmerHale excels in the recruitment, retention and advancement of women lawyers. Yale Law Women reported that 45% of associates at responding law firms are women, compared to 52% of associates at our firm. WilmerHale outranks its competitors in the overall percentage of women partners as well. At 26%, the firm has greater representation of women in its partnership than responding law firms, which have an average of 17%. WilmerHale also promoted more new female partners than its competitors—Yale Law Women reported that women made up just 27% of newly promoted partners at other law firms in 2010, while women made up 73% of WilmerHale’s newly promoted partners.

The firm also devotes considerable time and resources to enabling its lawyers to lead successful professional and personal lives. The framework for the firm’s professional development is the Career Advancement Program, which offers hands-on mentoring, a competency-based approach to professional development, flexible career paths, comprehensive training and a competitive merit-based compensation package.

Through the efforts of the Women’s Leadership Initiative, the firm continues to focus on the development and advancement of women. With direction from the Work-Life Balance Committee, the firm also seeks to cultivate a work environment that encourages its lawyers, women and men alike, to practice law in a manner that is consistent with the firm’s core values, while maintaining fulfilling family and personal lives.

WilmerHale continues to be a leader in family-friendly practices, offering generous parental leave, flexible work arrangements and subsidized emergency child care.

Yale Law Women is a student-run organization at Yale Law School whose mission is to promote the interests and development of women in law school and the legal industry.
