WilmerHale has been named a "finalist" nationwide in The American Lawyer's Intellectual Property Department of the Year contest-a recognition that only three other firms received. The results for the entire contest, which includes WilmerHale's "honorable mention" in the overall Litigation Department of the Year competition, are published in the January 2006 special issue of The American Lawyer.

Hale and Dorr LLP (one of the two firms that combined to form WilmerHale in May 2004) received the same IP Litigation finalist recognition in 2004, the only other year that The American Lawyer has ranked IP litigation. In addition, Wilmer Cutler Pickering LLP (before forming WilmerHale in 2004) received the "honorable mention" recognition in the Litigation Department of the Year survey in both 2002 and 2004 – the only other two Litigation surveys done by The American Lawyer. This year, WilmerHale was one of only three law firms recognized in more than one category.

Each of the Am Law 200 firms was invited by The American Lawyer to report on its litigation records between Jan. 1, 2004, and June 30, 2005.
