Protection of Personal Information: Massachusetts Extends Deadline for Compliance with New Privacy and Security Regulations

Client News
The Massachusetts Department of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR) extended the compliance deadline for its recently adopted regulations establishing rigorous standards for safeguarding personal information, 201 CMR 17.00: Standards for the Protection of Personal Information of Residents of the Commonwealth, "in light of intervening economic circumstances [and] the financial challenges brought on by national and international economic conditions." This extension parallels the Federal Trade Commission's extension of the compliance deadline for its Red Flags Rule for certain financial institutions.
