Firm News

Global Competition Review (GCR) has named WilmerHale one of the world's leading competition law firms in its annual GCR 100 list, a compilation of the world's leading competition practices. GCR described the practice as one of “the most talented groups in [the] rankings.”

GCR highlighted the firm's top cartel and litigation practices and lauded the strength of its merger clearance practice. Ranked third globally, GCR commented that the cartel practice is “one of the world's finest cartel defense services on both sides of the Atlantic,” and that the firm “takes on some of the most complex and contentious work anywhere in the world.” Similarly, WilmerHale's antitrust litigation practice, highlighted as one of only four firms in the top 10 that offer courtroom capabilities in the US and Europe, ranked 10th and was noted as having “one of the best litigation shops in Germany” and “some of the most high-profile and contentious antitrust work in [US courtrooms].”

The rankings focused throughout on the strength of the transatlantic practice and its capability across all of the major substantive areas. GCR recognized WilmerHale as one of the “most talented groups in [the] rankings.” In the United States, they describe the Washington DC office as “the coolly competent antitrust team” and “historically one of the city's best.” Various partners were named and recognized for help to “make this a broad and deep practice with a good generational balance.” The firm's Boston office was recognized as “arguably Boston's top antitrust group.”  The firm was recognized for the first time in California by GCR, noting the addition of Palo Alto-based Partner Heather Tewksbury two years ago was “quite the catch” and commented “it's hard to beat Tewksbury-a litigator with extensive courtroom experience.” On the other side of the Atlantic, GCR highlighted the skill and experience of both the Brussels and German completion practices. It noted the impressive work done by these highly recommended practices on high-profile matters across of breadth of industries. It described the German practice as a go-to for clients when they “need tough work done.”

“We are pleased that Global Competition Review has recognized that our Antitrust and Competition Practice and lawyers are among the very best in the world. With more than 50 years of experience and 70 plus competition lawyers in the United States, Europe and China, we have a wealth of experience representing clients across the full range of antitrust issues,” said Thomas Mueller, partner and chair of WilmerHale's Antitrust and Competition Practice.
