WilmerHale Cybersecurity, Privacy and Communications Webinar: GDPR—One Year Out

Speaking Engagement

In this session of the 2017 Cybersecurity, Privacy and Communications Webinar Series, WilmerHale Partner Dr. Martin Braun of our Frankfurt and Brussels offices will explore the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will take effect on May 25, 2018.

With just one year left to prepare, the webinar will describe the emerging consensus on the interpretation of certain key provisions of the GDPR and provide guidance regarding key activities that are required to complete preparations in time. Topics of discussion include:

  • guidance published by the Article 29 Working Party and national regulators so far, and additional guidance documents expected to be published in the coming months;
  • areas that require special attention, such as data mapping, relations with third parties, data protection impact assessments and data protection officers;
  • an update on international data flows, especially the upcoming review of the Privacy Shield, and challenges to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses; and
  • implications of Brexit.
