150th Anniversary of Dred Scott v. Sandford: Race, Citizenship & Justice

The Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice (CHHIRJ) at the Harvard Law School hosted a two-day national conference in recognition of the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court's historic decision, Dred Scott v. Sandford, 60 U.S. 393.The conference examined the historical significance of the decision as well as its current application within specific areas of the law, especially in regard to issues of race and civil rights. WilmerHale partner John Payton served as counsel in the reconsideration of the case with a distinguished panel of judges presiding, and many other leading attorneys, intellectuals and honorable guests participating as counsel and witnesses.
