Julie Aust Welly
Senior Associate
Julie Aust Welly represents clients in complex litigation matters in both federal and state courts, with a focus on appellate and regulatory litigation. Ms. Welly also maintains a robust pro bono practice, with a particular emphasis on reproductive rights and disability discrimination.
Prior to joining the firm as an associate, Ms. Welly clerked for the Honorable Helene N. White of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the Honorable Judith E. Levy of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. She also interned for the Honorable Michael A. Rosas, Administrative Law Judge of the National Labor Relations Board.
While in law school, Ms. Welly successfully briefed and argued multiple unemployment-benefits cases before the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Appeals Commission and a family-law case before the Michigan Court of Appeals. She served as a student attorney and volunteer notary for multiple law clinics, teaching assistant for an undergraduate Business Law & Ethics course, Managing Notes Editor of the Michigan Journal of Law Reform, and research assistant for professors Kate Andrias, Margo Schlanger, and Patrick Barry. Previously, Ms. Welly was a senior paralegal at a global immigration firm.
