Francis Greenway

Francis Greenway focuses on international arbitration and English litigation.

Mr. Greenway has advised clients from Europe, the United States and Asia in relation to ad hoc and institutional arbitration proceedings under various rules (such as ICC, LCIA, ICSID and UNCITRAL) and seated in multiple jurisdictions. He has experience of acting as counsel in high-value proceedings in both commercial and investment arbitrations across a number of sectors, including oil and gas, financial services, construction, and telecommunications.

In addition to his international arbitration practice, Mr. Greenway also has extensive experience of litigating high-value and complex disputes in the English courts and of other forms of alternative dispute resolution. In that context, he has advised clients from various industry sectors and jurisdictions on issues including general contractual/commercial matters, M&A, fraud, enforcement, jurisdiction, and choice of law.

Mr. Greenway has particular experience advising in relation to M&A disputes and is a contributing author to GAR’s Guide to M&A Arbitration.

Prior to joining WilmerHale in 2017, Mr. Greenway worked at a leading law firm in London, where his practice focused on international arbitration and litigation.

    • representing a major insurer in high-value ICC arbitration proceedings arising out of an M&A transaction in Asia;
    • representing a European energy company in multi-billion dollar LCIA arbitration proceedings concerning rights to gas fields in the Middle East;
    • representing one of the world’s leading educational institutions in ad hoc arbitration proceedings against a major donor;
    • representing an investor in multi-billion dollar ad hoc arbitration proceedings against a State in relation to a disputed tax liability;
    • representing a global oilfield services company in ICC arbitration proceedings relating to the drilling of oil wells in the Middle East;
    • representing a major media company in the High Court, successfully defending high-value claims of fraud, breach of contract and breach of licence;
    • advising various private sector clients on contentious English and international law issues.
