Bradley M. Baglien

Brad Baglien has a diverse litigation practice with an emphasis on securities litigation, data privacy matters and complex commercial disputes. He has represented clients in matters involving claims for breach of fiduciary duty, allegations of civil and criminal fraud, privacy and data breach response, and government and regulatory subpoenas. Mr. Baglien also advises clients on compliance with federal and state privacy statutes and regulations, and has represented clients in civil and regulatory matters involving alleged violations of the telephone consumer protection act, the fair credit reporting act, the wiretap act and the video privacy protection act. Mr. Baglien further has substantial experience both prosecuting and defending large consumer class action matters. In the pro bono context, Mr. Baglien has represented indigent defendants before the United States Court of Appeals, assisted clients with political asylum and immigration petitions, and represented an aspiring artist in a complex copyright dispute.

Mr. Baglien has extensive experience handling all phases of civil litigation. He has argued motions and appeals in state and federal courts, taken and defended depositions of fact and expert witnesses, coordinated electronic discovery, drafted successful dispositive motions, and prepared witnesses for depositions and trials. Beyond the realm of litigation, he has secured positive outcomes for clients in arbitrations and mediations.

Mr. Baglien is a member of the firm's Commercial Litigation Group and the Securities Litigation and Enforcement Practice Group.

Prior Experience

Prior to joining WilmerHale, Mr. Baglien was a litigation associate at two law firms in Chicago, Illinois, where he both prosecuted and defended a wide variety of commercial litigation matters. During law school, Mr. Baglien served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Mark Filip of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Professional Activities

Mr. Baglien is a member of the American Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association and the Illinois Bar Association. He is also active in the local Alumni Clubs of the University of Chicago and St. Olaf College.


    • Obtained complete dismissal of complaints alleging Constitutional injuries against former government official and supervisor
    • Successfully represented underwriter and related individuals in litigation relating to the sale of residential mortgage-backed securities
    • Completed investigation and advised Special Committee of the Board of Directors of a major healthcare company on potential Medicare fraud issues
    • Successfully represented custodian of accounts in multiple cases alleging breach of contract, negligence, aiding and abetting fraud, and negligent misrepresentation relating to accounts managed by third party investment manager
    • Defended Board of Directors in derivative lawsuit over alleged excessive executive and director compensation
