Diversity Journal named Sarah Tegan Hogan and Mindy Sooter to its fourth annual list of “Women Worth Watching in STEM.” Hogan and Sooter are among 26 women recognized for their contributions, leadership, and professional achievements in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

A scientist by training, Hogan advises companies in the life sciences and digital health industries in connection with structuring and negotiating intellectual property licenses, strategic collaborations and other complex commercial transactions. She holds a BS in biotechnology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MS in genetics from the University of New Hampshire. Prior to joining the firm, Hogan accumulated a wealth of experience stemming from her time as a scientist at a Boston-area biotech company. Now, as a partner in WilmerHale’s Boston office, she draws on her scientific background and over 15 years in private practice to provide leadership and mentorship to other women in STEM.

As partner-in-charge of WilmerHale’s Denver office, Sooter is a seasoned intellectual property litigator who specializes in patent, trade secret and other high-stakes commercial litigation. She holds a BS in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University and an ME in telecommunications from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her extensive background in engineering, which includes serving as the director of software engineering at a startup, gives her a unique edge in technical cases. In her feature profile, Sooter attributes her scientific background to the teachers and professors who encouraged her to purse her love of engineering. She notes that exposing diverse and female students to STEM at an early stage is key to breaking down barriers and closing the gender gap.
