New York is the greatest city in the world. Being a summer associate here means you get to experience a bunch of cool events in this city.
Just this week, five summer associates (around a third of our class) joined Alan Schoenfeld, a litigation partner, to watch Hadestown, which had just won eight Tony Awards a few weeks prior. I wish I had taken pictures, but I can tell you that we were just seven rows away from the stage at orchestra level—I could make out the buttons on André de Shield’s (Hermes) sharkskin suit. James Franco was sitting 20 feet away in my row. Broadway is such a unique cultural asset and getting to enjoy the show with my fellow summer associates was a fantastic experience.
A few weeks prior, we hit up the Virtual Reality Bar in Brooklyn, where we got to try state-of-the-art virtual reality software, which ranged from calm activities like fishing at a lake to the intensity of defending against alien spaceships with a handheld energy shield and blaster. After a few hours of playing games, we went to the Time Out Market in DUMBO, where we had an amazing view, and ended up enjoying excellent food and drinks on a warm summer night.
Finally, even earlier in the summer, we got to go to the Converse headquarters in SoHo to design our own custom Converses (pictured below). I went all-in on a subway theme, including alternating black and white eyelets for express and local stops, as well as grey laces for trains going through them. I put the Queens area code on the heel to rep my hometown. Did I mention I’m a New Yorker yet?
Working in the New York office is awesome but so is exploring the beautiful city outside of it.
