Christopher O'Brien focuses his practice on complex intellectual property matters for a wide range of clients, including those in the fields of semiconductor fabrication, microprocessors, light emitting diodes, medical devices, wireless communications, computer hardware and software and technology startups. Mr. O'Brien's practice encompasses many aspects of intellectual property law, including patent litigation, post-grant proceedings, patent prosecution, due diligence and counseling.

Mr. O'Brien's litigation experience includes actions in district court, involving technologies such as microprocessors, light emitting diodes and printing. He has also represented clients in post-grant proceedings before the USPTO, including inter partes reexamination.

In Mr. O'Brien's patent prosecution practice, he has researched and drafted patent applications, managed a large docket of pending patent applications, and obtained numerous granted patents on behalf of his clients. Additionally, he has counseled and advised clients and foreign associates on claim drafting, interpretation, appeal procedures and reissue applications. Mr. O'Brien has also drafted invalidity opinions, responses to Office actions, and advised clients on issues regarding domestic patent prosecution.

Mr. O'Brien has provided pro bono services through the National Veterans Legal Services Program as well as the DC Bar Association.

Prior to joining WilmerHale, Mr. O'Brien was an associate at a law firm in Alexandria, Virginia. He was also a student associate at the Brooklyn Law Incubator and Policy Clinic, and a legal intern and summer associate at a law firm in New York, New York.
