Ariel Warner is a senior associate who focuses her practice on complex litigation matters. She joined the firm in 2013 after graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law. 

While attending law school, Ms. Warner served as a volunteer with the Hunton & Williams/University of Virginia School of Law Pro Bono Partnership, where she assisted victims of domestic violence in custody cases. Ms. Warner was also actively involved in clinical programs. She participated in the Family Resource Clinic, where she helped clients with claims for disability and veteran's benefits, as well as the Criminal Defense Clinic, where she represented clients charged with misdemeanor offenses.

Ms. Warner also worked as a legal intern in the Major Felony Bureau of the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.

Prior to pursuing her legal education, Ms. Warner was a paralegal for a boutique law firm in Boston, Massachusetts. While there, she worked on white collar criminal defense, employment law, and business litigation matters.

OCR Guidance Could Alter Scope of Pending and Future Civil Rights Investigations

A memorandum obtained by ProPublica, if authentic, sets forth substantially revised guidance for civil rights investigations conducted by the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR). The memorandum, addressed to Regional Directors from Candice Jackson, OCR Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, explains that, going forward, “there is no longer a 'one size fits all' approach to investigation of any category of complaints.”

For more than a decade, WilmerHale has participated in the Legal Aid Society's Generous Associates Campaign, a fundraiser led by associates based in Washington DC and meant to help bring justice to low-income individuals. Together this year, the participating 71 law firms raised $1.37 million, hitting an all-time record high.

Supreme Court Strengthens False Claims Act’s Statute of Limitations, Narrows First-to-File Bar

The U.S. Supreme Court today resolved two important questions under the False Claims Act, holding that (1) the Wartime Suspension of Limitations Act (WSLA), 18 U.S.C. § 3287, applies only to criminal cases, and (2) the FCA’s first-to-file bar, 31 U.S.C. § 3730(b)(5), ceases to apply once the earlier-filed action that might have created the bar has been dismissed.
