Recruitment

We are committed to attracting an exceptional and diverse group of lawyers and law students. This progress is reflected in the composition of our partner, counsel and associate ranks, but begins with our summer associate program.

We participate in and sponsor numerous programs that bolster our recruitment of women, lawyers and law students of color, and LGBT candidates. These programs include job fairs in cities near our US offices such as the Boston Lawyers Group Job Fair, Bay Area Diversity Career Fair and Lavender Law Job Fair. We are also involved with diversity pipeline initiatives such as the Law Preview.

Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) provides entering first-year law students with law firm and legal department internships before starting law school. SEO interns participate in a 10-week program and are included in the firm’s summer associate program, where they gain practical experience by working on substantive legal projects. WilmerHale has also been pleased to host the SEO Nationwide Welcome Reception in our New York office. At the conclusion of the program, interns participate in SEO’s Corporate Law Institute in New York City, led by practicing lawyers and professors. WilmerHale’s partnership with SEO began in 2010. In 2017, we hosted four interns in our New York, Palo Alto and Washington DC offices.

WilmerHale also partners with Law Preview, which prepares underrepresented rising first-year law students for law school through a week-long program that introduces them to the full first-year curriculum and provides tips on time management and how to prepare for class and take examinations. In 2017, WilmerHale offered scholarships to more than 40 students.
