Stephen A. Jonas retired from WilmerHale in 2022 after a distinguished career as co-chair of the firm's White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice. Mr. Jonas focused on representing corporations and individuals in investigations, criminal defense and grand jury matters, handling the full range of representation from internal corporate investigations to federal grand jury proceedings to criminal trials and appeals. He represented clients in jurisdictions around the country and in cross-border investigations, and also handled related False Claims Act cases, government enforcement proceedings and civil litigation.

Mr. Jonas had substantial experience in federal healthcare fraud, immigration fraud, accounting fraud, securities fraud, economic espionage and environmental crimes. His notable representations included international pharmaceutical and medical device companies in DOJ healthcare fraud investigations, an Indian-based technology company in federal grand jury proceedings concerning immigration matters, and trial work on behalf of corporate executives in federal securities fraud and environmental cases. He first joined Hale and Dorr in 1984 and, after serving as Deputy Attorney General and Chief of the Public Protection Bureau of the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office from 1988 to 1991, rejoined the firm.
