  • In 2010, Partner Franz Schwarz was awarded the inaugural Swiss Arbitration Association’s (ASA) Prize for Advocacy in International Arbitration. The award, established in 2008, was given for the first time at ASA’s annual conference in Geneva on 29 January 2010.

Chair of the firm's International Arbitration Practice Group Gary Born also received the top honor in the “IDR-Related Book of the Year” category for his book, International Commercial Arbitration (3d ed. 2009). OGEMID described his book as a, “masterful treatise from a masterful mind.”
  • Chambers UK 2009 acknowledged our Dispute Resolution practice for exceptional standing in the region, and specifically named Gary Born and Steven Finizio as “Leaders in their Field” in the UK. Chambers UK states, "Gary Born receives commendation as a superb practitioner who has developed the practice almost single-handedly. His powerful advocacy is a natural selling point and the manner in which he dismantles opposing counsel’s arguments is fearsome. He has been involved in one of the most highly publicised arbitrations of recent times, acting for the Sudanese People’s Liberation Movement in a major dispute concerning the delimitation of the Abyei area. Wendy Miles was also engaged on this matter, and on numerous Asian and European energy disputes. Steven Finizio enjoys an eclectic practice that has seen him handle disputes across the transport, electronics and finance industries. Franz Schwarz has been involved in several telecoms-related arbitrations and is a convincing and dynamic individual, with a remarkably sharp mind."
  • Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers 2010 named our International Arbitration Department as one of the top in the world saying, "peers recognise the strength of the firm's written submissions in major arbitration cases and highlight the quality of the team as a whole, particularly in the energy field." Chambers also said, "Gary Born is clearly one of the most outstanding lawyers in the arbitration sector. Peers note that he is "a very much in-demand arbitrator," and praise his level of activity and presence in major cases. His publications are recognised as some of the leading works on the market, and he is credited for building the whole firm's arbitration practice up from scratch."
  • Chambers USA 2010 recognized our international arbitration practice, calling us "an impressive firm, home to talented lawyers who provide an excellent service." New York-based lawyer John Pierce and DC-based lawyer Rachael Kent were individually recognized as leaders in the field.
  • WilmerHale’s International Arbitration practice was ranked in the 2008 edition of The Legal 500 UK.
