Hu, Ping

Ping Hu is a senior associate in the Intellectual Property Department. He joined the firm in 2012.

Practice

Mr. Hu’s practice focuses on complex intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution, due diligence analysis, opinions/counseling and litigation.

Mr. Hu’s patent prosecution work includes US and foreign applications in a wide range of technical fields, such as computer software and hardware, security software and system, mobile devices and applications, electronic devices, medical devices, mechanical devices, fuel cell technologies and polymer materials.

As part of his intellectual property practice, Mr. Hu has performed IP due diligence review in mergers and acquisitions transactions, negotiated patent license agreements, and handled license disputes. Additionally, he has prepared freedom-to-operate, patentability, validity and infringement opinions, and has authored confidentiality, work-for-hire and copyright assignment agreements.

Mr. Hu has participated in patent trial, arbitration hearings and US District Court hearings. He has also conducted re-exam and interference proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Experience

Prior to joining WilmerHale, Mr. Hu was a technology specialist then an associate with Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo, PC in Boston, Massachusetts, where he focused on patent prosecution and litigation. During his time there, he also helped Mintz Levin expand its China Practice.

Before joining the legal profession, Mr. Hu worked in the high-tech industry for several years. Mr. Hu was a staff software engineer with Polycom, Inc (formerly PictureTel Corporation). While there, he was a key member of the development teams for designing and implementing state-of-the-art videoconferencing and collaboration systems.

Mr. Hu is a member of American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Boston Bar Association and Boston Patent Law Association.
